Come On Board

Join Our Board of Directors

Established in 2018, TAC is a non-profit 501c3 organization whose mission is to propel women and non-binary abstract artists of color to take their rightful place in the art world by providing a refuge to incubate and nurture creativity. Our inaugural board of directors was formalized in October 2019, and we are still seeking members to join us! If you are interested in helping us support the practices of these artists and celebrate their work, please send an email to info@tesseracollective.com.

What to expect if you join the Board of Tessera Arts Collective?

A board member of TAC has passion for the mission of TAC and talents or strengths to offer at a leadership level. In line with the mission of TAC, the Board and its founders strive for diversity of its members including color, religion, sexual orientation and class. Board members have three primary responsibilities to the organization:

  • Create visibility

  • Support the growth of TAC

  • Collaborate with the staff and artists

Each board member should expect to serve a minimum of 2 years on the board. Both the staff and the existing board members have invested time and energy to find you and educate you on the organization. At the current time, there is no “term limit” for board members.

During the inaugural years of the board (2019, 2020) we will be shaping the responsibilities, guidelines, governance and roles of the board. This will be done in collaboration with the staff and the director. Here is a sample of some of the expectations set upon you as a board member by the organization:

  • Prepare for and attend 6 board meetings a year (in person or virtual)

  • Be educated on Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, & Indian women & non-binary artists and abstract artists in particular

  • Be able to clearly articulate and advocate for the organization and its mission

  • Make a financial contribution each year of an amount that is comfortable for you

  • Support the director and staff with meaningful feedback, ideas and leadership support

  • Attend TAC events to the degree possible

  • Make introductions between TAC and people in your network who would support the mission

  • Serve for 2 years

How does TAC fundraise?

TAC raises money using three key activities all of which are expected to continue:

  • Grants and gifts from institutions

  • Individual donors

  • Art auctions and sale of merchandise

Board members are expected to support all of these activities either directly or indirectly. The money raised by the organization and the board is used to support TAC operations, staff salaries or stipends and WOC artist fellowships.
